The ingredients needed to make English Scones:
  1. Prepare 200 grams Cake flour
  2. Get 1 tsp Baking powder
  3. Get 50 grams Butter or margarine or olive oil
  4. Make ready 50 grams Sugar
  5. Take 50 ml Milk

British scones are different from American scones! British ones have less butter and sugar in them because you slather clotted cream (which is kind of a butter) and sweet jam on them when you eat them. They are flaky, fluffy, and so delicious! Instructions to make English Scones:
  1. Start pre-heating the oven to 200℃.
  2. Sift the flour and the baking powder. If you don't want to do this, just mix them with a fork.
  3. Rub and mix the flour and butter together by hand.
  4. Add the sugar. If you are adding dried fruits, sesame or chocolate, do so here.
  5. Add the milk, mix very quickly and bring the dough together.
  6. Roll the dough out to a 2cm thickness and cut out the scones with a cutter. If you don't want to do this, just cut the dough with a knife.
  7. Bake them in the pre-heated oven for 10-15 minutes.

They are flaky, fluffy, and so delicious! Classic English Scones are light and airy with a slight crumble. A very British treat to which you can add different dried and fresh fruit. Usually served with afternoon tea and clotted cream, these are the very British round version, different to the American triangle ones. Place onto a greased baking sheet, and flatten lightly.
